BIO/Nancy DafoeÂ
Nancy Avery Dafoe (Nancydafoebooks) is an award-winning writer and English educator living in Central New York. She writes across genres and is the author of fifteen published books with her sixteenth to be released in 2026. Her work also appears in numerous anthologies, in addition to journals and magazines. Dafoe has written novels, memoirs, short stories, essays, and poetry. She also writes a nonfiction blog on SubStack at: https://nancydafoe.substack.com. She has won awards for her fiction and poetry, including first prize in the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing competition for Poetry, and in the New Century Writer Award short story category, as well as first place awards in the Soul Making prose poetry competition, and from the NLAPW, CNY Branch competitions, among others. She most recently won gold in the Human Services Indie Book Awards for her novel Socrates is Dead Again in 2023 and the Director's Choice Award for Unstuck in Time from the same organization in 2023. She is a member of the National League of American Pen Women and serves on the Cortland Arts Connect Board of Directors. Her work appears in 34th Parallel magazine, The Ampersand, The Comstock Review, Verbicide, The Healing Muse, and numerous other literary journals.
